Handicap Placard for Heart, Lung, Neurological or Vision Conditions
Conditions outside a chiropractor’s scope are evaluated by Dr. Schapiro, a board-certified physician and surgeon.
Conditions in This Group
- Heart failure, angina, or a cardiac condition that limits exertion
- COPD, emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis, or severe asthma
- Use of portable oxygen, which qualifies regardless of walking distance
- Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, ALS
- Peripheral neuropathy, including diabetic neuropathy
- The lasting effects of a stroke
- Legal blindness, which qualifies on its own criterion
Not the whole list. The check lets you describe your condition in your own words.
What to Have on Hand
The practitioner will ask about the things below. Get the information and any documents together now to streamline the process.
- Which system the condition affects, and what it is called
- Whether light activity such as dressing or crossing a room brings on symptoms
- For oxygen: how many hours a day and how many liters per minute
- For a neurological condition: how it affects walking, balance and strength
- For vision: whether an eye doctor has told you that you are legally blind
- What treatment you are on, and who is treating you
Answer as your situation actually is. Records help but are not required, and we can request them from your own doctor if that is easier.
