Renewing a Florida Placard: What a Renewal Needs
When a Florida permanent placard expires, what a renewal needs, and why a new medical certification is required each time.
When It Expires
A Florida permanent disabled parking permit is valid for four years and expires on the holder's birthday. The month and year are printed on the placard.
What a Renewal Needs
- A newly completed HSMV 83039 signed by a licensed practitioner
- Your current Florida driver license or ID card
- Your existing placard number, if you have it
The certification cannot be more than twelve months old when your county receives it.
Florida requires the certification to reflect your condition now. A practitioner cannot certify something they have not evaluated, and counties check the date.
Even If Nothing Has Changed
It still needs a new evaluation. In practice a renewal is quicker than a first application, because you already know what is being asked.

An expired placard is not valid to use, and your county cannot renew without the certification in hand. A month's margin covers anything unexpected.
