Lost or Stolen Florida Handicap Placard: What to Do
What to do if your Florida placard is lost or stolen, whether you need a new medical certification, and what your county requires.
You Probably Do Not Need a New Certification
If your current permit has not expired, most Florida counties will replace it from their own record. The medical certification is already on file, so the practitioner's half does not need doing again.
What to Do
- Report the theft to your local police if it was stolen, and keep the report number. Some counties ask for it.
- Contact your county tax collector. Most have a replacement form, and some handle it at the counter.
- Take your Florida ID.
Call your county before you travel to them.
Replacement is one of the areas where Florida counties differ most. Some do it while you wait, some post it, and a few want a fresh application.
When a New Certification Is Needed
- Your permit had already expired
- Your county has no record of the original
- The certification on file is more than four years old
